The wave I missed? The one that hasn't arrived yet?
I was at the seaside. I had a week there and big plans, none of which came to fruition. I walked to the sea. I stood on the edge of the beach and watched the waves. I waited for one to break... in vain.
Another time, I stood waist-deep in the water when the waves were huge. I waited for the right one, the biggest one, to carry me as far as possible. Then, there were bigger ones everywhere, just not here. Sometimes there was one, it's true, but was it as great as those others? I returned to the shore disappointed. It was fun, but was it truly fulfilling?
One time, I sat down with a piece of paper and, without thinking, drew a diagonal line. It wasn't straight. It came out crooked. And then another one next to it, and another similar one. As close as possible. And I drew these lines without seeing the full picture. I focused only on the next line. When I finished, I saw it. The surface on which I am waiting for the wave.
I gaze intently. Maybe this is it? Maybe here? Will it come yet, or have I already missed it? Missing Wave.
